Dolan, whose family controls the company's shareholder vote, got a $6.2 million payment in 2007 as part of a one-time dividend for all shareholders that was declared the prior year, according to a company filing Wednesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
In addition to about 3 million cable subscribers in the New York area, Cablevision also owns Madison Square Garden, the New York Knicks, the New York Rangers and the AMC, IFC and WE tv cable networks.
Dolan received $1.8 million in salary last year, up from $1.6 million the year before, and an annual cash bonus of $4.3 million, up from $3.75 million the year before. He also received stock and options awards valued at $3 million.
In the year before, Dolan's total compensation was valued at $11 million.
Dolan's father Charles, the company's chairman, received compensation valued at $10.4 million, including salary of $1.6 million, unchanged from last year; an annual incentive award of $3.4 million, a special dividend of $2.5 million, and stock and options valued at $2.4 million.
Last year Cablevision's shareholders rejected a $10.6 billion bid from the Dolans to take the company private. The Dolans control the company's shareholder vote but their board required them to put the going-private transaction to a vote by public shareholders.
The AP calculates compensation pay by including salary, bonus, incentives, perks and the estimated value of stock and options awards granted during the year. Those totals may differ from what companies report on their compensation summaries in their proxy statements, which use other measures.
